Sophronitis

Sophronitis

Sophronitis is popular for their deep red, orange or pink star shaped flowers, which are clustered at the end of short inflorescence. Approximately the flowers are about one inch or three centimeter across. It has nice tight miniature leaves, which are blueish green coloured on the leaf. Margin in a whitish green colour. It can live for many years on cork or tree fern slaps.
Light : The plant needs light to grow. During winter it needs more light whereas in summer it needs less.
Temperature : The ideal temperature is 58-62 degrees during night time and 70 degrees to low 80 in daytime this is one of the easiest Sophronitis to grow in term of temp.
Humidity : The ideal humidity for this plant is 45-70%.
Water : It is important to allow this plant is just dry out between watering as it has thick fleshy leaves that require somewhat driver condition. When the buds emerge then the plant should be kept a bit wetter at roots than normal.
Fertilizer : We can use grow more 20-10-20 at one teaspoon per gallon and it must be flush with clean water once a month. Fertilize with green jungle orchid food every time you water.
Flowering : During fall months (October to December) flowering time seems greatest. The flowers are long lasting about 3 months. We can breed with some of the larger orange hybrid cattleyas, which produce wonderful hybrids, which are compact in size with large flowers.
