Did you know that the beautiful flowering plants grow in every continent on earth making up nearly 90% of the plant kingdom? Or did you know that dry gardens attract many species of butterflies? No wonder there are so many stunning varieties of flower plants that are on display. There are heritage gardens, public gardens, rose gardens, scented flower gardens, theme-flower gardens, and wild flower gardens. It is therapeutic for gardeners and hobbyists to germinate new ideas for flowering plants. As the flower plant industry grows worldwide, it is now consciously contributing to the green cover to save the environment. It is the perfect natural stress buster.
Flower plants include woody flowering plants such as asters, geraniums, orchids and woody flower plants such as acacia, passion fruit and figs. Some flowering plants are leafless. They live as parasites on the roots and stems of other plants. Another group of flower plants are Violets. They bloom several times each year and will live for many years with proper care. Orchids give a wonderful and visually –impressive look. They bloom during fall when temperatures begin to drop. Roses are a princely category of flower plants that adorn each and every garden. They bloom several times each year. Winter favorites live during cold months. But lily flowers, which are usually seen in churches, bloom for several weeks while in the season. Hyacinths are also spring blooms sprout from bulbs that can be planted after they begin fade indoors.
The flower plants are classified according to their growth cycle-annuals, biennials and perennials. The perennials are classified in further two categories Herbaceous and woody. The flower plants grow erect, climb like vines, decumbent (inclined with raised tips), creeping or repent. The other classification includes bedding plants, hanging plants and houseplants.
Effective care, which includes watering of plants daily, will keep them flowering for long. Indoor plants are quite susceptible to root rot caused by over watering. There are flowers, which prefer less light like Phalaenopsis. Violets require more sunlight. Nurturing the plants with appropriate plant foods and fertilizers can also prolong their lives. Flower plants are often more cost effective than fresh –cut flowers. Importance and popularity of indoor flower plants is increasing. It is also considered to be a rewarding hobby. Flower plants require lighter, warmer and more or less drought free atmospheric conditions to give promising results. Some of the easy-to-grow flower plants, which can be grown inside the house, include Achimenes Beloperone, Bougainvillea and Coleus. Achimenes has funneled shaped flowers and posses’ colors such as red, white, blue or lavender. Beloperone has attractive bracts surrounding the small flowers. They need regular feeding with liquid fertilizer. Bougainvillea is a climbing plant with little flowers. Coleus is an easy to grow plant but is difficult to keep alive in winters. Apart from being an inevitable charm of any gardens, flower plants are grown on an industrial basis. This industry has become an important source of employment as flowers are used for many purposes.
