Directions
Starfish are such pretty creatures and these cookies are no different! We’re using a cool technique to give them life-like positions and make them look like they’re walking across the seabed!
Steps

Beat the butter with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy. Add the confectioner’s sugar and beat for 2 minutes, until well combined. Add the vanilla and combine. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt, then add to the butter mixture. Mix until the dough sticks together when pinched. |

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. |

Roll the dough out on a floured surface to ¼-inch thick. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out star cookies. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use aluminum foil to roll up little balls and misshapen logs, and place them under the stars in various positions. This will make it look like the starfish are walking. Place the entire baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes. |

Preheat oven to 325°F. Add a few drops of orange food coloring to the egg whites and brush them onto the cookies. This will act as an edible “paint.” Sprinkle the orange sugar over the surface. |

Bake for 13 to 15 minutes. Cool on the pan completely. Gently remove the foil from the cookies—they are delicate, so be careful! Enjoy! |
