Place roast in crock. |

Cover and cook on Low for 6–8 hours. |

Place the potatoes, carrots, and onions around and over the roast. Fill slow cooker ½–¾ full with water, depending upon how soupy you like your stew. |

Cover and cook on High 2–3 hours. |

Lift the lid and put in the cabbage, pushing it down into the broth. Continue cooking on High 1 more hour, or until veggies are done to your liking. The stew should be ready at lunchtime—or dinnertime. |
