Directions
Use any brand of unsweetened cocoa powder for this hot chocolate topped with whipped cream to share with a friend. You can try it with carob powder, but you know what can happen when you substitute a critical ingredient…. The recipe can easily be increased or reduced to accommodate any number of friends.

To make the Hot ChocolateHeat the milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract in small saucepan over medium heat, and whisk continuously until chocolate has dissolved. |

Pour into mugs right before you are ready to serve, then top with a dollop of whipped cream and, if desired, additional toppings. |

To make the Whipped CreamIn the bowl of a stand mixer set to medium-high speed, or using a hand mixer, whip the heavy cream and sugar until stiff peaks form, 6 to 7 minutes. |
