Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet. |

Combine the all- purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl; mix well. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or two knives. Stir in the whole wheat flour and oats. |

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk all at once. Mix with a fork until well blended. |

Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for 1 minute. Shape into a ball and set on the baking sheet. Press into a 6- inch circle. Cut a cross in the top. |
